MACKIE AND THE SAE INSTITUTE ANNOUNCE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
Woodinville, Wash. — June 20, 2005 — Mackie and the SAE Institute are pleased to announce the winners of the first ever SAE Institute/Mackie International Scholarship Contest. The contest, which was announced at the Winter NAMM show last January, grants one international student and one U.S. student a full-tuition scholarship each to the SAE Institute's award-winning audio technology program.
As such, Mackie and the SAE Institute would like to congratulate Elijah Walsh of Ontario, Canada (at left) and Shane Newville of Michigan (below) on being selected as the recipients of the international and U.S. SAE Institute/Mackie Scholarships.
"We received literally hundreds of excellent applications for this program and it was not an easy task to choose just one international and one domestic winner," commented Kyle Ritland, director of public relations for Mackie. "But both Elijah and Shane demonstrated exceptional talent, a clear vision for their future and a strong commitment to achieving their goals. We're confident they will both be excellent representatives for Mackie and hope that this opportunity will help them to build a foundation for a successful future."
"The SAE Institute/Mackie Scholarship award attracted an unprecedented, and gratifying, number of entrants—a clear reflection of the health of the industry and a recognition of the worldwide reputations of SAE and Mackie," added SAE's Managing Director Rudi Greame, "The two exceptionally talented winners were chosen because their work represented the highest values of the music industry—talent, creativity and hard work. At SAE Institute they will have the opportunity to explore and develop this talent and we wish them deserved success."
As part of the application process, potential students were asked to submit a portfolio of creative works or productions for review. Entrants were also asked to outline their own relevant experiences and goals in the audio industry, as well as state why they should be chosen to receive the full scholarship from Mackie and the SAE Institute. SAE Institute campuses began accepting entries for the new Mackie scholarships in February 2005. The application period ran through March 31, 2005. Each campus selected two finalists from their location, and the winning school entries were then submitted to Mackie for final judging.
Congratulations to Elijah and Shane.
